Six alpacas have been shot and killed at a property in Queensland's southern Downs region in what police are describing as a disturbing act of animal cruelty.
Police were called to a Glen Aplin property on Saturday after the owner discovered five of his animals dead and another critically injured. It was later euthanised.
"Disturbingly this is the second incident of shooting deaths involving alpacas on rural properties with seven killed at Lyra last September," Senior Constable Jim Ellis said on Sunday.
“These senseless deaths are wrong and heartless and I’m urging anyone who may have noticed anything or anyone suspicious or out of the ordinary in the local area to contact police.”
It's believed the animals were shot on Wednesday or Thursday using a small calibre firearm.

Police continue to investigate the shooting deaths of seven alpacas at a rural property on Curtin Road, Lyra which occurred between September 16 and 18, 2017. All seven were shot with a small calibre firearm.
