Six in 10 say housing unaffordable

The latest Essential Research survey has found 60 per cent of people believe housing has become unaffordable for the average income earner.

If there was any doubt that home ownership in parts of Australia is out of the reach of many, a new survey has found as many as six in 10 believe housing has become unaffordable for the average income earner.

The weekly Essential Research poll of 1006 respondents also found 75 per cent saying properties have become more unaffordable in their area over the past few years.

That included 83 per cent in NSW, 80 per cent in Victoria and 64 per cent in Queensland.
