Sydney Sixers star Ellyse Perry has fired a warning shot to the rest of the WBBL, claiming there's still plenty of improvement left in the glamour club.
The Sixers have a roster that's the envy of the rest of the competition and have claimed the last two WBBL titles.
But after being upset by the Melbourne Stars in their tournament opener, Perry said they were still a work in progress.
"I think we were just a bit off," Perry said.
"I don't think it's possible in this competition, given its nature, to go through undefeated. If a team does that, they're unbelievable because there's so much that happens over the course of six weeks.
"From our point of view, there's not pressure externally but there's a great challenge for us. Whatever happens at the end of the season, we just want to play better than we did last season. We missed that on the weekend but it's nice we've got an opportunity to rectify that."
The Sixers boast a squad packed with four Australian representatives, in Perry, Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner and Lauren Cheatle, as well as international marquees Sara McGlashan, Marizanne Kapp and Dane Van Niekerk.
A pre-tournament poll of opposition captains revealed that the Sixers were considered overwhelming favourites by their peers having made all three finals since the tournament's inception.
They were brought back to earth following the Stars' seven-wicket win with 16 balls to spare but have a chance to make amends during back-to-back matches at North Sydney Oval against the Perth Scorchers on Friday and cross-town rivals the Sydney Thunder on Saturday.
"We had some really good review meetings after the weekend and the key for us was not adapting quick enough," Perry said.
"It's all well and good to have some plans, the way that the conditions played and how well Lizelle Lee played, we had to do something different. And we just served up the same thing pretty consistently.
"We were probably 20 runs short with the bat and fell just short in the last four overs.
"I think they're two really easy things to fix."
