The Sydney Sixers have woken up to a New Year's headache after veteran Brad Haddin joined a growing injury ward in their Big Bash loss to the Adelaide Strikers.

The 66-Test veteran has been ruled out of Saturday's match against the Strikers after straining his hamstring on New Year's Eve.

Haddin hit four sixes on his way to an unbeaten 54 off 35 balls as the Sixers made 5-176 at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

But he didn't take his position behind the stumps when the Sixers took the field and later revealed he had tweaked his groin while batting.

"I'm not sure what it was, I just felt something pop," he said.

"I've never had that issue before so I don't know what it is. It's a bit frustrating. It was great fun out there."

Offspinner Will Somerville has been named in Haddin's absence, while Ryan Carters is likely to take the gloves.

Opener Michael Lumb also failed to return to the field after earlier notching up 31 off 23 balls, but has been named to face the Scorchers.

The Sixers have already lost star allrounder Moises Henriques to injury.

Henriques will miss the rest of the BBL campaign after scans confirmed he had suffered an upper-grade calf tear in his left leg after retiring hurt in the Sixers' loss to the Melbourne Stars.

The injury almost certainly ends the 28-year-old's hopes of making Australia's squad for the Twenty20 World Cup from March next year, and he is likely to now aim for a return for the second half of the Shield season in February.
