Sixers struggling but Silk still smooth

Sydney Sixers' performances through the opening powerplay are among the worst in the Big Bash League, but Jordan Silk is still doing his job with the bat.

The Sydney Sixers' top-order woes through the powerplay are behind their early season Big Bash League woes.

The Sixers slumped to their second straight loss to the Melbourne Stars on Thursday night, after another early collapse came back bite the Sydney team.

The Sixers are still yet to reach 50 without losing their first three wickets in all of the competition's opening three games, and have an average score of 3-38 through the opening six-over powerplay.

"We probably haven't got off to the starts we would have liked to in those first overs," batsman Jordan Silk said.

"I think we all know that too, as a batting group. It's one thing we will be looking to rectify when we get on the road.

"Just losing wickets in clumps and we weren't able to build a partnership of any kind (against the Stars). 130 was probably never going to be enough on that wicket."

Silk has been one of the few shining lights in the Sixers' top order, now averaging 108 given he's still only been dismissed once after Thursday's loss.

He scored 67 not out to take the Sixers to victory over Perth with Daniel Hughes in their first game, and after copping a golden duck against the Thunder he top scored with an unbeaten 41 against the Stars.

It was enough to see him top the competition's run-scorers lists on Thursday night, before Hobart and the Thunder's game on Friday evening.

"I'm happy with how I'm hitting the ball," he said.

"I probably lacked a bit of fluency out there (against the Stars) with the wickets falling around me.

"While it's nice to be scoring some runs, I would like to have a win to go with it."
