Skier Holmlund walks a year after spill

A year to the day since a bad training fall in Italy, Swedish freestyle ski cross racer and Olympic bronze medallist Anna Holmlund has taken her first steps.

Swedish freestyle ski cross racer Anna Holmlund has taken her first steps, a year after a bad training fall in Italy, Swedish television SVT is reporting.

Father Lars held her hand as the 30-year-old took some steps in her flat in Sundsvall, north of Stockholm, as she presses on with her rehabilitation program.

"I can't believe it" he said in a clip aired on Friday by SVT.

The broadcaster said the clip was filmed on December 19 - a year to the day since Anna Holmlund underwent head surgery after a fall during training in Innichen, Italy.

She was in an induced coma until early January owing to the severe injuries. She said in October she aimed to walk before Christmas Eve, which she achieved with a five-day margin.

"The results are terrific in the time that has lapsed," her father said.

Holmlund, an overall World Cup winner, took Olympic bronze at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.
