Skipper Perry lifts Sixers to WBBL win

Captain Ellyse Perry has scored 60 to help the Sydney Sixers consolidate top spot on the WBBL ladder with a 14-run win over Hobart Hurricanes.

A WBBL personal season-best batting performance from captain and champion allrounder Ellyse Perry has helped her side clinch a semi-final spot with a 16-run win in the top-of-the-table clash with Hobart Hurricanes.

The win at North Sydney Oval on Friday put the Sixers five points clear of the Hurricanes with each team having three matches to play.

It was the Sixers' seventh straight victory, but they will have little time to celebrate as they face defending champions and crosstown rivals Sydney Thunder at the SCG on Saturday.

Opener Perry scored 60 on Friday to rescue her side after they slumped to 3-46 in the 11th over.

Sixers recovered to post 6-134 and then restricted Hurricanes to 8-118.

Perry has scored at least 34 in eight of her 11 innings in the tournament, though Friday's score was her first half-century.

She struck three fours and thee sixes in her 54-ball innings before being dismissed in the 19th over.

No other Sixer contributed more than 16.

New-ball bowler and Australian representative Julie Hunter caused most of the early grief for the Sixers.

Hunter took 2-13 from her four overs and dismissed the dangerous duo of Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner.

The Hurricanes' chase got off to the worst-possible start, with Gardner dismissing Erin Burns with the first ball of the innings.

Perry, who took 1-20 from her four overs, followed up by bowling Georgia Redmayne, with the Tasmanian side subsequently slumping to 4-28 in the sixth over.

Captain and England representative Heather Knight (31 off 30) and Corinne Hall (42 off 43) worked hard to get Hobart back in to the game.

However, Sarah Aley (3-20) took a couple of late wickets to seal the Hurricanes' fate, having earlier scored a quickfire unbeaten 16 off ten balls with the bat.
