Slain Brisbane restaurateur was a ‘good, humble man’ with young children

A Brisbane man murdered in his front yard has been named as local restaurateur Abdul Basith, who has been described as a "good man" with young children.

A man murdered in the front yard of his Brisbane home while his family were inside is believed to be father-of-four and restaurant owner Abdul Basith.

Reports on social media indicate the man and his wife had another baby on the way.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the young family by a woman who worked next door to Mr Basith's restaurant. It has raised $1500 in just one hour.

"I would see both parents working tirelessly, day and night, to provide the best possible future for their children," wrote the page's creator Sapna Agdas Ahmad.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the 35-year-old victim who suffered fatal wounds, from a knife or similar weapon, outside his home at Kuraby just after midnight on Wednesday.

However, friends on social media have identified the man as Mr Basith, describing him as a "good man" with young children.

"He's very good. He's very humble and very helpful. All the time helpful," friend Mohammad Hissam told Fairfax Media.

Friend Abu Amaan wrote on Facebook that Mr Basith "contributed significantly" to the Muslim community in Brisbane. He opened his Kuraby restaurant Sizza Indian and Middle Eastern restaurant just last year.

Police believe his murder was not random and the killer may have tampered with the power supply to lure him outside.

Neighbours reported hearing two men arrive in a car, shouting, with loud music, in the middle of the night.

"We don't think there's a random person running through the streets of Brisbane," Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said.

"There's certainly early indication that there might have been interference with electricity. But we haven't confirmed that yet. Certainly, something took him outside and in the course of whatever interaction he has died."

Mr Basith's wife, who was home at the time of the murder with their children, is traumatised by the incident.

"There's nothing jumping out about his character that would concern us at this stage," Det Fleming said.

Police said neither race or religion were believed to be motives for the crime.

Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from a nearby train line and are seeking any further security camera or dashcam footage around the crime scene in Saint George Street.
