Law firm Slater and Gordon says it will strongly defend a class action brought against it by one of its shareholders.

The law firm has told the Australian Securities Exchange it has been served with a class action by Babscay, which alleges Slater and Gordon's financial statements for three consecutive financial years from mid-2013 contained false and misleading statements.

Slater and Gordon said it would vigorously defend the claim.
