After landing on the green Hobart pitch his foot slid several lengths past the line as the ball left his hand.
Kemar Roach (0-64) then started with a no ball from Bellerive's southern end.
Roach's first spell lasted just four overs and he didn't return until the closing stages of the second session.
Gabriel did not bowl in the final session after experiencing pain in his left ankle and will go for scans after play.
