Small ceremony to mark parliament's end

The proclamation dissolving the 44th parliament will be signed and read at Parliament House in a low-key ceremony.

A low-key ceremony will mark the closing of Australia's 44th parliament ahead of the federal election.

The proclamation for the dissolution of both houses of parliament will be signed in Parliament House's Marble Foyer on Monday morning.

It will then be read outside the front of the seat of government before being placed on a ceremonial stand in the Members Hall, between the two chambers.
