A poll of Britons' views ahead of June 23's referendum on European Union membership showed a smaller lead for the "Remain" campaign, according to market research company Opinium.

Opinium on Saturday said an online survey of 2007 adults conducted between May 31 and June 3 showed 43 per cent intended to vote to stay in, while 41 per cent said they would vote to leave.

Some 16 per cent were undecided or did not want to say.

A previous Opinium poll for the Observer newspaper released on May 21 showed 44 per cent of people wanted to stay in the EU, versus 40 per cent who wanted to leave.
