Smith back to No.1 on ICC batting charts

Steve Smith and Joe Root have dethroned AB de Villiers at the top of the International Cricket Council's Test batting rankings.

A knock of 53 in the pink-ball clash was enough for Steve Smith to reclaim top spot on the ICC's Test batting rankings.

The International Cricket Council released its updated charts on Monday, with Smith and Joe Root both rising to be tied at No.1 at the expense of AB de Villiers.

De Villiers registered scores of zero and nine in his side's recent match at Nagpur, however the South African superstar can reclaim top billing with a good performance in New Delhi.

Smith showed plenty of resolve in Australia's first innings at Adelaide Oval, the skipper fastidiously picking the gaps until he attempted to charge offspinner Mark Craig.

Smith was out for 14 on Sunday, when his side got home by three wickets.

The 26-year-old has previously occupied top spot this year, having started an incredible run of form with four Test tons against India last summer.

David Warner, named man of the series after hammering New Zealand's attack all over the Gabba and WACA, remains No.5 on the batting charts.

Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood climbed 10 places to No.10 on the Test bowling rankings.

Hazlewood was named man of the match in Adelaide, where he took nine wickets to help Australia bank a 2-0 win in the three-Test series.
