Snapshot for day 1 of the fourth Test

Chadd Sayers and Pat Cummins both picked up two wickets on day one of the fourth Test between Australia and South Africa.

AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA, DAY 1

* SCORE: South Africa 6-313

* MAN OF THE MOMENT: Chadd Sayers. Couldn't wipe the smile off the debutant's face after Adam Voges presented him with a baggy green. Toiled hard in 26 overs and claimed two late scalps, with his first wicket one to remember - the prized scalp of AB de Villiers.

* KEY MOMENT: South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis is trapped lbw for a golden duck by Pat Cummins, having shouldered arms.

* STAT OF THE DAY: The last time Australia fielded a Test XI without either Steve Smith or David Warner was at the same ground in 2011, when Pat Cummins debuted.

* SUMMARY: Cummins and Sayers each picked up two wickets in the final session to give Australia some momentum. However, Aiden Markram's knock of 152 means his side remain well placed to push for a 3-1 series win.

* QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We want to be super competitive but we also want to be respectful of our opposition" - captain TIM PAINE explains his side's new approach, which included a pre-game handshake with South African players and a lot less sledging.
