Snapshot for day 1 of the third Test

A snapshot for day one of the third cricket Test between Australia and South Africa in Cape Town.

AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA, DAY 1

* SCORE: South Africa 8-266

* MAN OF THE MOMENT: Pat Cummins. The express paceman ignited a game-changing collapse of 6-37, snaring 4-7 just when it looked like being a very long day in the field for the tourists.

* KEY MOMENT: Dean Elgar was on 53 when he guided the ball straight to Nathan Lyon at point. The offspinner dropped the regulation chance, while the opener finished 121 not out after weathering painful blows to the forearm and helmet.

* STAT OF THE DAY: Josh Hazlewood has dismissed Hashim Amla seven times in 10 innings. The only bowler to have enjoyed more success against Amla is Stuart Broad (8 wickets from 33 innings).

* SUMMARY: The Proteas were in the box seat to take a 2-1 series lead after cruising to 2-220 then Cummins turned the match on its head. South Africa would have been targeting a total of 400 prior to the collapse but will now be happy if they can scrap together 300.

* QUOTE OF THE DAY: "They were two down at tea. We thought we were in for a pretty long day today and maybe into tomorrow" - CUMMINS was delighted with the state of play.
