Snapshot for day one of the second Test

A snapshot for day one of the second Test between Australia and South Africa at Bellerive Oval.

AUSTRALIA vs SOUTH AFRICA: DAY ONE:

* Score: Australia 85. South Africa 5-171 (lead by 86 runs)

* Man of the moment: Vernon Philander did most of the damage for South Africa, taking 5-21 despite being forced from the ground before lunch with a sore shoulder after a mid-wicket collision with Aussie skipper Steve Smith. He returned after some ice treatment to add to a list of scalps including opener David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Adam Voges

* Key moment: Adam Voges out for a duck. The veteran batsman's fitness has been the focus of much attention leading up to the must-win Test for Australia in Hobart. With the home side 3-8 in the ninth over all eyes turned to Voges to dig in and build a partnership with skipper Steve Smith. Instead, Voges edged a seaming ball and was caught behind and Australia's bad start suddenly looked terminal at 4-8

* Stat of the day: 15 - the number of wickets to fall during an action-packed day one. It's the most number of Test wickets to fall in a day at Bellerive Oval

* Summary: Australia all out for 85 in 32.5 overs/two hours and 27 minutes. Steve Smith's men must have been wishing for the skies to open and deliver forecast rain so they could seek safety in the changerooms away from South African warheads Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott (3-41). In reply, the visitors posted 5-171 and are well placed at the end of day one

*Quote of the day: "When you're playing badly, you're going to cop it and that's fine," Australia coach Darren Lehmann knows the heat is on.
