Snapshot of day three of the second Test

A snapshot for day three of the second Test between Australia and Sri Lanka at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

AUSTRALIA v SRI LANKA DAY 2

Score: Australia 5(dec)-534 and 3(dec)-196, Sri Lanka 215 and 0-17

Men of the moment: Long-term Mitchell Starc critic Shane Warne said playing the quick in Canberra would be a "waste". But Starc silenced his doubters by capturing his first five-wicket haul since March. Usman Khwaja had also been under pressure, but the No.3 came out and blitzed the tiring Sri Lankan attack with his eighth Test century.

Key moment: Starc completing a five-wicket haul is sure to throw a scare through the England camp who may have written the speedster off after a lacklustre summer.

Stat of the day: In his sixth Test against Sri Lanka, Usman Khawaja's highest score before smashing an unbeaten 101 in the second innings was 26.

Summary: Sri Lanka's early resistance in their first innings didn't last and they lost their last six wickets for 95 runs. Australian captain Tim Paine decided against enforcing the follow-on, giving his batsmen some much-needed time in the middle and the bowlers are a chance to escape the heat. Australia's top-order again struggled, stumbling to 3-37, but Khawaja held firm.

Quote of the day: "I really wish you could get some runs here. I don't want you to feel bad after the series watching your team play on TV." - Sri Lankan Niroshan Dickwella wicketkeeper to an under-fire Khawaja.
