SNAPSHOT OF WALLABIES POOL A CLASH WITH ENGLAND
RESULT: Australia 33-13
WHAT IT MEANS: Australia progress to the quarter-finals, regardless of the result against Wales next weekend, full of confidence. England, on the other hand, suffer the embarrassment of being knocked out of the tournament on their own turf.
KEY MOMENT: When England's loosehead prop Joe Marler was hooked in the 50th minute, having conceded his fourth scrum penalty, it was the ultimate acknowledgement that the Wallabies scrum had won dominance.
WALLABIES BEST: Could pick anyone from the pack - including the superb David Pocock for his ball-hunting qualities or the front-row for their demolition job in the scrum, but Bernard Foley's personal haul of 28 points ensured he was the man of the moment.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "They came home with a bit of a wet sail so I think that showed some great character from us and there's still a lot of things we can improve on." Veteran centre MATT GITEAU was impressed with Australia's defensive resilience towards the end of the game.
WHAT'S NEXT? Australia face Wales next Saturday (Sunday AEDT), with a view to finishing top of Pool A. That should give them the best run through the knock-out games and a best shot at winning a third World Cup. England will have to regroup for their final group game against Uruguay with their World Cup in tatters and nothing to play for.
