Sniper gives evidence to Lindt Cafe siege inquest

SBS World News Radio: Almost seven hours before Man Haron Monis killed hostage Tori Johnson, a three-man sniper cell positioned opposite the Lindt Cafe had a 10-minute window during which they assessed taking out the gunman.

But the most senior sniper deployed during the siege has told the inquest into the December 2014 stand-off they were never able to satisfy themselves that Monis represented an immediate threat to the hostages.

Monis was killed when police assaulted the building after the gunman executed Mr Johnson while hostage Katrina Dawson died after being hit by fragments from police rounds.
