South Australia is the big winner from the federal budget's energy package, with the commonwealth promising funding for the Port Augusta solar thermal power plant.
More than half the $265 million energy package in Tuesday's federal budget will go to infrastructure in SA.
This includes $110 million commitment to the Port Augusta generator in the form of an equity investment if the project needs it.
The government indicated at the 2016 election it was likely to help fund the project and recommitted to it as part of a deal with key crossbench senator Nick Xenophon in exchange for his party's support for company tax cuts.
The commonwealth will also give Adelaide $36.6 million over two years to invest in other energy infrastructure, with the money coming from an asset recycling deal.
There's also money to look at the prospect of building two new gas pipelines from the continent's west and north to Moomba.
The budget papers also confirm the government's $68 million commitment to build the nation's first proton beam therapy facility at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute.
"This major investment is a significant boost for Australian health and medical research and for patients across the country who are set to benefit from this cutting-edge technology," Health Minister Greg Hunt said.
Treasurer Scott Morrison also indicated the Adelink tram network expansion could benefit from a new $10 billion rail fund, provided its business case stacks up.
