An Australian soldier says she was sexually assaulted while at a military base in Afghanistan last month.
The soldier reported the incident to her superior officers on Wednesday and the matter is now being investigated.
The alleged assault occurred last month at the military base at Tarin Kowt where she was on deployment.
The Department of Defence said on Sunday it would not be commenting further while the investigation was in train, but said inappropriate behaviour would not be condoned.
It is providing support to the soldier.

A Defence spokesman said the female soldier had chosen to return to Australia.
"The soldier is completing her deployment early and is returning to Australia in accordance with her wishes," he said.
