Soldiers 'to be charged over offensive Facebook posts'

Australian soldiers found to have posted demeaning comments about women on two Facebook pages will be charged under the Australian Defence Force Discipline Act, according to reports.

A small group of soldiers believed to be members of the Townsville-based 3rd Brigade have been linked to two Facebook pages that refer to "all women" as "sluts", among other derogatory comments.

Brigadier Shane Caughey, commander of the Townsville-based 3rd Brigade, said he could confirm the soldiers would be charged and that further disciplinary action may result, News Limited reported earlier today.

Around 4000 Townsville-based 3rd Brigade soldiers were yesterday issued a warning over their use of social media as the Australian Defence Force investigated the allegations.

The ADF warned yesterday that there would be "zero tolerance" for serving members found to be behaving in a way that undermined the values of the defence force.

The incident is separate to a second investigation underway into an alleged email sex ring believed to involve members of the ADF.
