Government House says the solicitor-general will advise Governor-General Quentin Bryce on any potential conflict of interest after concerns were raised about the relationship between her daughter and Victorian Labor powerbroker Bill Shorten.
Labor will need to show the governor-general it can command a majority on the floor of parliament's lower house in order to win her approval for minority government.
Ethicist Leslie Cannold yesterday called on Ms Bryce to excuse herself from deciding who forms the next government to avoid a potential conflict of interest.

Government House last night issued a statement saying the solicitor-general has now agreed to advise Ms Bryce on the matter.
