Australian retail veteran Solomon Lew is about to become the first Australian to be inducted into the World Retail Hall of Fame.

Mr Lew, alongside American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and British perfume entrepreneur Jo Malone, will be added to the hall of fame during the 2016 World Retail Congress in Dubai in April.

The chairman of Premier Investments, the company behind children's stationery chain Smiggle and designer sleep wear brand Peter Alexander, says he's honoured to be recognised by his international colleagues.

"The fact that I am the first Australian to be formally inducted serves to honour not only me, but the Australian retail industry which has developed to become one of the most vibrant and competitive in the world," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

The World Retail Hall of Fame recognises the lifetime achievements of many retail pioneers and entrepreneurs, including Zara founder Amancio Ortega, British designer Sir Paul Smith and Uniqlo's Tadashi Yanai.
