Firefighters have been working throughout the night in many parts of south-east Australia, as authorities revealed more evidence that some blazes had been deliberately lit.

A day of total fire ban has been declared again today for New South Wales after searing heat saw more than 140 fires rage across the state yesterday.

Dozens of fires are still rated as burning out of control in parts of New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria.
