Sonic on track to lift earnings

Pathology and medical imaging group Sonic Healthcare says it is on track to lift earnings this financial year.

Sonic Healthcare is on track to lift earnings this financial year, aided by a weaker Australian dollar and improvements in its local pathology business.

Shareholders at Sonic's annual general meeting on Thursday were told that revenue growth for the Australian pathology business was substantially stronger and the group's UK business was outperforming expectations.

The group is also expected to benefit from currency tailwinds, but says the medical imaging market was subdued, probably because of uncertainty around the federal government's Medicare schedule review.

Sonic reaffirmed its guidance of $815-$840 million in underlying earnings for fiscal 2016, at constant currency rates. Earnings growth of 20 per cent is expected, based on current foreign exchange rates.
