Sons of famous fathers land at AFL homes

Two sons of famous AFL fathers were claimed via the father-son rule at the draft meeting and another is almost over the line.

After an anxious wait, father-son prospects Patrick Naish and Tyler Brown joined Richmond and Collingwood respectively at the AFL draft.

And a third prospect has one foot in the door of his dad's old club.

Adelaide chose to nominate Jackson Edwards, the son of two-time premiership champion Tyson, for the rookie draft only, which meant any rival club could take him at the national draft in Sydney on Friday.

But none did, which means he only has to slip through the seldom-used pre-season draft to become a Crow.

Chris Naish played 143 games for the Tigers between 1990 and 1997 and his son joined his old club when they matched St Kilda's bid at No.34.

Tyler Brown, the son of 254-game premiership champion Gavin joined his brother Callum at the Pies when they matched a bid from Port Adelaide at pick No.50.

"There's no more to go now," delighted Pies recruiting chief Derek Hine said after claiming Brown's second son a year after he drafted Callum.

"Tyler has got a long way to go in terms of maturity in where his body sits, but he's clearly got the talent ... we're just going to have to be patient with him.

"He'll be fine but it's just going to take him a bit of time."

A year after Adelaide claimed their first father-son via the rookie draft - Darren Jarman's son Ben, they set themselves up to do the same with Jackson Edwards.

"We certainly didn't make that decision easily and we didn't make it with no information," Crows recruiting boss Hamish Ogilvie told AAP.

"We do have to get through the pre-season draft and then Jackson can come to the club.

"Hopefully that's what happens but people need to understand that's not a decision we made lightly."

The AFL pre-season and rookie drafts will be held via teleconfernece on Monday afternoon.
