Sony apologises for Japanese pop group's Nazi outfits

A Japanese girl band has caused outrage by wearing Nazi-like costumes at a Halloween concert.

Sony Music has apologised after a Japanese girl band caused outrage by wearing attire similar to Nazi uniforms at a Halloween concert.

"We sincerely apologise for any insult caused by this lack of awareness," the Japanese division of Sony Music which owns the music label of the popular band, Keyakizaka46, said.

In the statement published online, the company pledged that nothing similar will happen again.

Yasushi Akimoto, the producer of Keyakizaka46, also offered an apology in a separate statement.

"I don't believe our staff members meant to create something that evokes Nazis but I believe I have failed to exercise proper oversight as a producer," he said.

The group performed at a Yokohama arena south of Tokyo. Images online showed members of the band wearing military-style black capes and hats featuring a symbol that looked like the Nazi emblem of an eagle atop a swastika.
