A robotic dog is the standout gadget unveiled by Sony as the company announces its latest product line-up ahead of the CES technology show in Las Vegas.

Aibo, the robot canine first released by the firm in 1999, is making a comeback, going on sale in Japan later this year, Sony boss Kazuo Hirai confirmed.

The company also announced what it claims are the first wireless earphones that are both noise cancelling and splash proof - the WF-SP700N.

Hirai said Sony's vision was to "release products that make the ordinary, extraordinary", but added that there was "still so much we can do to innovate".

Aibo will be among the products on display on Sony's booth, on show outside of Japan for the first time.

However, the robot is yet to be given a release date for other parts of the world.
