What was said as NSW decriminalised abortion

* "Abortion has been decriminalised in NSW. I am sorry this has taken so long"- Independent Sydney MP and bill creator Alex Greenwich.

* "This is about making sure women can make choices and that they can get a procedure which is health care. No longer will women be criminalised for making that choice and that's a wonderful thing" - Summer Hill Labor MP and bill co-sponsor Jo Haylen said it was a "historic day".

* "I had to run the state. When I'm required to be in the chamber I am, and I had full confidence that the house would resolve it in a positive way" - NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she was too busy to be in the chamber to vote, and didn't even consider going in.

* "The process this bill went through was not as it should have, but anyway, it is what it is and we are at a better place" - Liberal MP Tanya Davies, who threatened to move to the crossbench and initiated a spill motion against the premier over the bill.

* "Today is a sad day for NSW. It's the first time in decades that we have on our statute books a law that allows one person to kill another" - Government MP Kevin Conolly, who also threatened to defect from the Liberal Party over the legislation.

* "The Abortion Law Reform Act 2019 may be the worst law passed in NSW in modern times, because it represents such a dramatic abdication of responsibility to protect the most vulnerable members of our community" - Catholic Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher.

* "A woman knows what is right for her body, her family and her future. The NSW Parliament has recognised that today" - Women's rights organisation Fair Agenda's executive director Renee Carr.
