Sour end for Aussies in India ODI series

Australia have missed out on a 3-0 win in the women's ODI series against India after a moderate batting total and sloppy fielding in their final match.

Skipper Meg Lanning admits a lack of concentration cost Australia a clean sweep of the women's ODI series against India.

At Bellerive Oval on Sunday, the visitors posted a five-wicket win to leave Australia on a high despite having lost 2-1 the three-match series.

Batting first, the Southern Stars managed 7-231, to which India surpassed with 5-234 with three overs to spare.

Misfields and dropped catches featured too often in Australia's last 10 overs in the field.

"We just probably weren't concentrating hard enough and really making sure we were getting those balls clean," Lanning said after the match.

"It looks a bit sloppy, I guess, when that happens and, when you've only got 230 on the board, you've got to try and save every run."

Visiting skipper Mithali Raj top-scored with 89 after being handed an early chance with a fumbled stumping by stand-in wicketkeeper Alex Blackwell.

Mithali went on to make an 82-ball half-century and, a short time later on 69, was again let off when Ellyse Perry dropped a catch at cover.

"In the shorter formats of the game, you've got to be on the whole time because that can win or lose the game so we've got to be better at that," Lanning said of her side's fielding effort.

Mithali was finally run-out when Kristen Beams hit the stumps from deep mid-wicket.

Opener Smriti Mandhana added a valuable 55 for India before being bowled by Beams (1-21).

"What (better) than to get runs on Australian soil against the Australian team which is one of the best in this format," Mithali said.

Earlier on Sunday, Blackwell top-scored with 60 for Australia, while Ellyse Perry made 50.

But the star performer during Australia's batting was Indian fast bowler Shikha Pandey, who captured 3-50.

She also took a mid-wicket catch to dismiss Alyssa Healy for 21 and, on the next delivery, secured the diamond-duck run-out of replacement batter Megan Schutt by firing the ball at the stumps.

India head home to host Sri Lanka in a series starting on February 15.

Australia travel to New Zealand later in February for three ODIs and three Twenty20 matches against the Kiwis.
