South Africa's Aaron Phangiso has been suspended after tests revealed he has an illegal bowling action, putting the left-arm spinner in doubt for the World Twenty20 this month.

Cricket South Africa withdrew Phangiso from contention for the first two games of a three-match warm-up series against Australia while he undergoes work on his action and is tested again Monday.

The suspension continued a troubled time for Phangiso, who has been involved in alcohol and drug controversies in recent months.

He was forced to apologise after being barred from a flight home following last year's tour of India because he was drunk.

Phangiso was in trouble again last week after pretending to snort drugs when television cameras showed him sitting among South Africa's reserve players on the sidelines of a game against England.

He made another public apology.

The second round of tests on his bowling action Monday will decide whether Phangiso is able to play at the World Twenty20 in India, CSA said.

Phangiso was named to South Africa's squad for the tournament before he was reported for an illegal action in a domestic game last week.
