Defence projects will create around 6000 direct jobs in South Australia over the next 10 years, a new state government report has found.

SA has a skilled workforce that will build the next generation of the navy's submarines, as well as bid for work across the cyber, science and research areas of defence, SA Defence Industries Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith says.

"Our vision to be the nation's defence state is now a reality, and it's important for us to remain competitive through innovation and new technology," Mr Hamilton-Smith said.

The South Australian Government Defence Strategy 2030, launched on Thursday, said the industry could grow by creating more export opportunities and investing in high-skilled defence workers.

"This strategy provides a clear direction to invest in our defence future and build a strong and capable workforce," Mr Hamilton-Smith.
