Gabriel Atem and Manyok Ajak are refugees from South Sudan, and they are also two of the newest members of a State Emergency Service (SES) branch north of Adelaide.
The pair left their homeland through Kenya and arrived in Australia on humanitarian visas. Now they are part of Adelaide's growing South Sudanese community.
"It is very important in life to help your people. So I joined this very important organisation to help our nation, which is South Australia or Australia at home," said Gabriel Atem.
The SES in South Australia is actively recruiting people from multicultural backgrounds to bring new perspectives into the volunteer organisation, but to also help individuals integrate into their community.
