Janine Southby has been appointed New Zealand netball coach for the next four years.
Southby, a former national under-21 coach, replaces Waimarama Taumaunu, who stood down following the recent Constellation Cup series against Australia after four years in the role.
The former Otago representative and Southern Steel coach becomes only the 10th coach to guide the Silver Ferns in their 77-year history.
The 46-year-old will lead the Silver Ferns in their quest for gold at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the netball World Cup in Liverpool the following year.
Southby says she is looking forward to her new role.
"It is an honour and a privilege to be given the responsibility of leading the Silver Ferns and working with such an exciting group of athletes," she said in a statement.
Southby coached the New Zealand under-21 team for four years, culminating in their gold medal-winning performance at netball's youth World Cup in 2013.
She also coached New Zealand's Fast5 Ferns in 2013 and 2014, winning the Fast5 world series title in both years.
She has been at the helm of trans-Tasman league team Southern Steel for the past four seasons, but will now stand down from that role.
A group of Silver Ferns triallists will be named next week to attend a camp in Auckland from December 7-11, with the 2016 Silver Ferns squad named soon after.
