A bushfire sparked by lightning is continuing to burn on Western Australia's southern coast, threatening lives and homes in the Area.

Emergency WA has issued a watch and act message for Bremer Bay and Boxwood Hill, southeast of Perth.

Conditions in the fire zone are continually changing and residents are advised to either leave or be ready to defend their properties.

More than 100 firefighters are in the area, working to actively fight the blaze and strengthen containment lines.

Aerial support has also been brought in to assist ground crews.

The fire was first reported on Thursday last week and has already burnt through more than 8000 hectares of scrub.
