Australia's women's cricket team have extended the gap between them and the rest of the world.

The International Cricket Council's annual rankings update was released on Tuesday and the world No.1 Australia have opened up a six point gap ahead of nearest rivals England, who they previously led by four rankings points.

New Zealand are a further four points back in third, with India fourth, West Indies fifth and South Africa ranked sixth.

Meg Lanning's Australia team recently completed a sweep of limited overs matches played against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

Their next assignment is a five-match ODI series against South Africa in November, with matches played in Canberra, Sydney and Coffs Harbour.
