A bout of deep vein thrombosis has forced young allrounder Grace Harris out of Australia's women's World T20 title defence.

Queenslander Harris initially had her flight from Australia to India for the tournament delayed from Tuesday night due to the condition.

However, with Australian team playing their first warm-up match in just three days, a call was made to replace her and uncapped 22-year-old Nicola Carey has been called in.

"After consultation with external specialists and the medical team at Cricket Australia, the decision was made that it was not medically safe for her (Harris) to fly and play whilst undergoing treatment," said Australian team doctor Leanne Hutchison.

Harris recently travelled back to Australia from New Zealand following the Southern Stars' ODI and T20 series there.

Fellow 22-year-old Carey scored 168 runs and took 16 wickets in 16 WBBL matches for the Sydney Thunder this summer.

Harris is the second member of the Australian cricket community diagnosed with DVT recently.

Australia's men's team coach Darren Lehmann missed the final two games of the T20 series against India in Australia as well as the first ODI over in New Zealand after being hospitalised with the condition.
