Veteran Southern Stars seamer Rene Farrell has retired from one-day international cricket.

The 30-year-old is keen to continue representing Australia in Test and Twenty20 formats, but will finish her career on 44 ODIs.

"With preparations about to begin ahead of this year's World Cup, the time felt right for me to retire from one-day cricket for Australia," Farrell said.

"I've had mixed fortunes in this format over the last few years and I no longer feel I can give what is required to compete at this level."

She has taken 42 ODI wickets at an average of 30.78.

Farrell will also continue her domestic cricket career with the NSW Breakers and Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League.
