Souths grant Grevsmuhl NRL release

South Sydney forward Chris Grevsmuhl is likely to link with Penrith after agreement by the Rabbitohs to release him, effective immediately.

Chris Grevsmuhl is all but certain to join Penrith immediately, with South Sydney agreeing on Tuesday to release the NRL second-rower.

Grevsmuhl, who had already signed a two-year deal with the Panthers to begin next season, has long been linked with an early release from Redfern after reportedly falling out with coach Michael Maguire.

Rabbitohs general manager Shane Richardson took pride in the club developing the Townsville product after luring him from North Queensland at the end of 2013.

"Chris has developed his skills into an NRL footballer at our club since making his debut at the beginning of last season," Richardson said.

"We wish him the best of luck in the future."

Grevsmuhl, 23, scored eight tries in 29 games since making his debut last season.
