South Sydney coach Michael Maguire has fired a furious broadside at his side after the underperforming Rabbitohs crashed to their fourth successive loss - a new low under the premiership-winning mentor.

Souths were humbled 30-22 by a vastly understrength Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

Souths now sit on the third last rung on the premiership ladder and Maguire didn't hold back in his assessment.

"Normally I don't comment about it but we need to ensure we are a lot better than that otherwise we are going to end up in the exactly the same place we are now," Maguire fumed

"It is not acceptable at this club.

"We need to be accountable for what we put out there because it was garbage really.

"People just didn't want to put their bodies in front of them. I haven't seen that before in my time here and we need to have a good hard look at ourselves.

"To get through this we have to be honest and brutal about what is going on on the field out there."

"I thought it was quite soft."

The NRL breaks for the representative week after this round, providing Maguire with plenty of time to work out what is going wrong at Redfern. Souths next face Parramatta on Friday week.

"We can definitely turn this around, we are not reaching our potential at the moment," Maguire said.

Sam Burgess struggled with an ankle injury through much of the second half in the loss to the Tigers. Maguire said he will go for scans on the complaint on Friday.
