Spain suspends steeplechaser Mullera

Spanish steeplechaser Angel Mullera, promoted to bronze in the 2014 European Championship, has been banned for two years for doping.

Spain's sports council has suspended steeplechaser Angel Mullera for two years for doping.

A document signed by council president Miguel Cardenal and published by the Ministry of Sports on Monday says the 31-year-old Mullera is "excluded from all relations as a high-level athlete" on a doping offence.

Mullera won a legal case in August 2012 enabling him to be reinstated to Spain's Olympic team after facing doping allegations.

Then, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said a decision by the Spanish athletics federation and Olympic committee to exclude Mullera "failed to constitute technical reasons" for a ban.

Mullera was promoted to bronze medal position in the 2014 European Championship 3000-metre steeplechase after Mahiedine Mekhissi was disqualified for taking off his shirt and bib for the last 100 meters.
