An Instagram photo of Spanish Francisco Rivera Ordóñez bullfighting with his baby daughter has prompted an investigation.
The Child Protection Agency of Andalucía, one of Spain's autonomous communities in the southwest, announced via Twitter on 26 January it would commence a probe into the situation.
"We absolutely reject this and will gather information with a view to possibly taking action," it said.
Alfonso Alonso, Spain’s acting minister of social security, supported the child protection agency's move.
"It isn't right in any circumstances to put a child at risk," Alonso is quoted as saying in the Telegraph.
The photo, posted earlier this week to about 60,000 followers, has gone viral and garnered around 13,000 likes.
"Carmen's debut. She's the fifth generation of bullfighters in our family. My granddad was a bullfighter as well as my dad," the caption reads.
"My dad did this with me and I've done it with my daughters Cayetana and now with Carmen."
The next photo he posted showed a photo of himself as a boy with his father in the bullfighting ring.
“History repeats itself. The best legacy alive, feeling, purity, honour,” he captioned.
But some social media users have been showing support for Francisco Rivera Ordóñez by posting photos of themselves and others bullfighting with children.
