A decision on Lauren Jackson's future could be known as early as Thursday, with speculation mounting that Australia's greatest female basketballer will retire.
The Opals superstar has been pushing to regain her fitness in time for this year's Rio Olympics after successive knee surgeries and complications.
She underwent testing earlier this week ahead of the first women's team camp in Canberra, the results likely to determine whether or not she will make the trip to Brazil.
Basketball Australia have called a press conference at the AIS on Thursday morning for a "major team announcement".
Jackson, 34, came close to calling it quits in January after being hospitalised with an infection in her knee joint following surgery.
The four-time Olympic medallist was also released that month from her WNBL contract with the Canberra Capitals, having played just six games in the past five years.
She admitted she would need an "absolute miracle" if she was to play at a fifth Olympics, but after a chat with Opals coach Brendan Joyce, and with the backing of BA, she vowed to fight on.
Fellow veteran and Opals teammate Suzy Batkovic rated Jackson as one of the best basketballers in the world and said it would be tough to see her career end through injury.
"To go out that way would be pretty disappointing for her," Batkovic told AAP.
"She's an incredible player.
"I was lucky enough to grow up through NSW country and come through the ranks with her, play at the AIS, play in the WNBA with her, play alongside her and winning three medals at an Olympics.
"For me, she's a phenomenal person and a phenomenal athlete."
Asked whether she would like to still see Jackson in Rio as a mentor if she doesn't make the team, Batkovic said that would depend on how she felt personally.
"I know that would be pretty hard for me to just go over, knowing that injury's held me back and I don't have that opportunity to finish it off," she said.
