Spending criticism 'laughable': McGowan

The WA premier says it's laughable the opposition has criticised $7 million a day government spending, saying the Liberals spent $81 million a day.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has laughed off the opposition criticising his government for spending $7 million a day meeting election commitments, saying the Liberals were spending $81 million a day.

Opposition Leader Mike Nahan, the former treasurer, has accused the Labor government of recklessness given the state's dire finances, but Mr McGowan says the cash has been well-spent on a new western suburbs school and expanding WA's busiest hospital.

"He talks rubbish. For him to suddenly claim the moral high ground when it comes to debt and deficit is laughable and also embarrassing for him," the premier told reporters in Fremantle on Sunday.
