Spicy Perth pitch leaves batsmen bruised

A look at the biggest hits inflicted on batsmen by a fast and bouncy Perth pitch in the second Test between Australia and India.

AUSTRALIA AND INDIA'S BATSMEN COP A BRUISING IN THE 2ND TEST IN PERTH:

* Aaron Finch:

The Australian opener retired hurt after being rapped in the right index finger by a Mohammed Shami delivery which reared up off a crack. Finch resumed his innings on day four but immediately copped a short ball from Shami which he gloved down the leg side to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant

* Marcus Harris:

Harris was lucky to escape serious injury in the second innings after ducking into a vicious 142.5km/h bouncer from Jasprit Bumrah which struck him flush on the helmet. Harris was quickly back on his feet and laughed off the incident while being assessed by the team doctor

* Tim Paine:

Paine had no chance of keeping out a brutish short ball from Shami after lunch on day four which cannoned off his glove into the slip cordon. Shami was on a hat-trick after dismissing Finch the following ball and went on to finish with career-best figures of 6-56

* Nathan Lyon:

Lyon was also in the firing line during Shami's frightening spell with the new ball. The tailender was struck on the grille after miscuing a brave attempt at a pull shot. Lyon was cleared to continue but holed out minutes later to Shami

* Virat Kohli:

The Indian skipper's masterful century was all the more impressive after copping several big blows, including a nasty hit to his left elbow courtesy of Mitchell Starc. An ice pack in the morning drinks break was the only treatment the superstar received during the session.
