When Jorge Taufua runs out for Tonga on Saturday in the Pacific Test clash with rugby league rivals Samoa there's bound to be some mixed emotions for his mother.
The Manly youngster is of mixed heritage, with his mother being Samoan and his stepfather Tongan.
Given the rivalry between the two island nations Taufua's decision to opt with Tonga for his international career is likely to have caused some angst at home.
And while the 23-year-old knows his mother is just proud to see her son playing representative football, Taufua hasn't completely ruled out switching camps one day down the track.
"It is a bit bittersweet that I'm half Samoan and I have to come up against them," Taufua told AAP.
"They (Tonga) gave me a call first but I'd love to play for Samoa also in the future.
"Keep mum happy.
"I'll see if she comes to the game this weekend or not."
Saturday's match also continues Taufua's road to redemption after a 2015 dogged by injury and an off-field indiscretion where he was caught in a wild brawl in Sydney's CBD with Canterbury centre Jacob Loko in March.
That incident led to the Sea Eagles imposing a booze ban on Taufua until the end of the year as well as a $10,000 fine, $5000 of which is suspended.
So far Taufua has only played one game in 2015 and he views Saturday's Test as a chance to continue getting his season back on track.
"I just want the focus to get back to footy and thankfully I've been selected to represent Tonga again," he said.
"I just want to get back to footy and let the rest take care of itself. I'm just happy to be back playing."
