TENNIS - Samantha Stosur is through to the French Open second round following a gutsy third-set fightback, while Bernard Tomic became the third Australian male first-round victor at Roland Garros this week.

Stosur, who held a one-set lead in her match before bad light stopped play on Monday, fought back from a break down in the third set to win five-straight games en route to a stirring 6-2 4-6 6-3 victory.

Tomic cruised past lowly-ranked American Brian Baker 6-3 6-4 6-4

AFL - Hawthorn AFL star Bradley Hill has been charged with assault for his part in an alleged altercation that occurred in Melbourne in January this year.

Hill, 22, was charged following an investigation into the January 24 incident by Victoria Police, which the club says the triple-premiership star fully co-operated with.

SOCCER - Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak sat out training on Tuesday but is still expected to line up against England on Friday night.

Coach Ange Postecoglou opted to give Crystal Palace skipper Jedinak an extra day to recover from Saturday's bruising FA Cup final, rather than risk him in the squad's first session since arriving.

SOCCER - Brazilian forward Leonardo has dished out another piece of Asian Champions heartache for Melbourne Victory and put Jeonbuk Motors into Asia's last eight.

The A-League club tumbled out of Asia on Tuesday in Jeonju, South Korea, losing 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate to the K-League giants.
