GOLF - Nathan Holman edged out another pair of up-and-comers to claim the Australian PGA Championship at the first playoff hole - victory earning the little-known Victorian full European Tour status for two years, including an invite to next year's British Open.

GOLF - Australia's Marc Leishman produced a flawless final round 67 to hold off world No.2 Henrik Stenson and to cruise to a massive six stroke win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City.

HOCKEY - The Kookaburras appear in good stead ahead of next year's Rio Olympics, goals from young guns Jeremy Hayward and Matthew Dawson sealing a 2-1 win over Belgium and a maiden World League hockey crown.

SOCCER - Liverpool resurgence under new manager Juergen Klopp ran aground as Georginio Wijnaldum inspired Newcastle United to a much-needed 2-0 home win, the Reds remaining six points adrift of the top four in seventh place.

CRICKET - South Africa resorted to dogged stonewalling, reaching 2-72 off 72 overs in their second innings in pursuit of an improbable 481-run victory heading into the final day of the fourth and final Test against India.
