RUGBY LEAGUE - The NRL's head of strategy Shane Richardson is in England where he is expected to meet with Sam Burgess - the man he lured to South Sydney when he was the Rabbitohs' CEO - to discuss a possible return to the NRL.

SOCCER - Southampton are up to seventh in the Premier League after extending their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth, while Ivorian striker Arouna Kone's hat-trick inspired Everton to a 6-2 demolition of Sunderland.

CRICKET - Australia's preparations for this week's opening Test against New Zealand begin in earnest on Monday with coach Darren Lehmann admitting the hosts have considered demoting all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in the batting order.

TENNIS - Roger Federer defeated long-time rival Rafael Nadal 6-3 5-7 6-3 to win his seventh Swiss Indoors title, while Agnieszka Radwanska won the biggest title of her career as she downed two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-2 4-6 6-3 to win the WTA Finals in Singapore.

GOLF - A final-hole birdie clinched Victor Dubuisson a one-shot win over Jaco van Zyl at the Turkish Airlines Open, while South Korea's Kim Sei-Young sank a seven-foot birdie putt to win the Blue Bay LPGA tournament on China's Hainan Island.

SOCCER - Sydney are sitting pretty at the head of the A-League ladder, while Tony Popovic is relieved his new-look Western Sydney have finally opened their account with marquee Dario Vidosic netting his first goal in a 1-0 win over Perth Glory.
